Final Exams
11:30:00 PMEven though the weather is getting colder and we are all excited for the up coming break and holidays, we still have school, well some of us and before we go off on a nice break or end a college semester we have something called FINAL EXAMS.
I personally am a very bad tester. I get nervous, panicky and I forget everything. I'm serious I blank out. I have to read the question like three times and really understand what it's saying. Also I double check my test, because it has happen that I missed questions for not reading the question right, which turns out to be completely frustrating!
I know we all hate studying and we hate test and we hate school and we wish education wasn't a priority for success, but it is! So stop whining and put your big girl or boy pants.
I decided to give you a few tips when it comes to studying. Just a little background for those who don't know, I am a online college student. I take my classes strictly online, but I am welcomed to go on campus to the testing center, library, tutoring, book store and so on. Since my classes are online it means that my studying is very much up to me. I don't have a study buddy or such so the tips I am giving are those that work for me.
Tip #1: Take notes/Do your review
If you are a lucky one, you will get teachers who will give you or send you a review to study for test. Do your review! I can't stress this enough and take extra notes just in case something pops out in the exam that wasn't on the review.
Tip #2: Highlight it!!
If it looks important highlight it. Color coordinate your highlighting so you don't get confused for example: I use green for the separation of chapters, orange for the word and yellow for the definition. Don't highlight the whole definition! Highlight the key words that connect/pop out the most.
Tip #3: Get down and Study!
The only way you can succeed in a test is if you really take at least an hour to sit and study. Free from distractions: no phone, no computer, no TV, no Netflix! Go over your notes out loud, our brain tends to remember more when it hears the information, rather than just reading it. Pretend you are doing a presentation or teaching someone what you learned. If you review your material at least five times out loud believe me you are going to remember the material when you are doing your exam. Your brain is going to replay what it heard the night before, just like it replays when bae says something cute or like it replays the gossip stories you heard from your best friend.
Tip #4: Don't Stress.
I know that in high school you have a specific day to do the exam, but if you are in college you can do them whenever you what as long as is done before the due date. Don't stress. Do the exam when you know you are fully prepare. Don't rush it. Let's be real either you will pass or fail, but remember that a test grade does not define your intelligence. Some people are just not good test takers, believe me I am one of them, but if I don't get a good grade I don't feel bummed because I know I tried and studied.
Good luck on finals week! I love you all and send you my best wishes whether you are in college or middle/high school!
